Pão de Torresmo

Pão de torresmo, a traditional brazilian crackling bread

It is a traditional brazilian bread made of flour and cracklings. Its similar to the crackling bread, from the cuisine of the Southern United States, but it does not take cornmeal.

Pão de Torresmo

Ingredients

  • 415g all-purpose flour
  • 20g sugar
  • 10g salt
  • 30g fresh yeast or 10g dry yeast
  • 75g butter
  • 1 egg
  • 120g warm water
  • Cracklings, bacon, sun dried tomatos, etc.. to taste

Instructions

  • Combine the flour, sugar, salt and yeast
  • Add the melted butter, egg and warm water and knead until smooth
  • Let it rest for about 1 hour
  • Spread dough in a flour dusted surface
  • Add toppings and roll the bread
  • Let it rest for about 40~60 minutes
  • Bake for about 30~40 minutes in a preheated oven (430ºF ~ 220ºC) or until the crust is golden
